The PNG Squash Rackets will be hosting the 2005 Steel Industries PNG Squash International in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea from 16th to 21st August 2005. (Iincorporating the PNG Open title and the inaugural Oceania Open title)
The event will combine a 1.5 star PSA sanctioned Men’s World Tour Event with USD$15,000 in prize money and benefits, and an amateur event catering for all ages and standards of players.
The PSA event is part of the official Men’s Professional World Tour. The PSA Event will consist of a 16 player main draw with a 16 player qualifying draw. This event is only open to PSA registered players and four exempt local players. The PSA Main Draw will be played at the Sports Plus Club situated within the grounds of the Port Moresby Holiday Inn.
The Qualifying Draw for the PSA Event and the Amateur Event will be played at the Port Moresby Squash Club. The Amatuer Event will provide events for all age groups and standards of players including:
Men’s: Special (Open event for non-PSA players), A Grade, B Grade, C Grade, Closed (PNG Citizens only), Masters (Over 35), Veterans (Over 50), Under 15 and Under 19.
Women’s: Open, A Grade, B Grade, C Grade, Closed (PNG Citizens only), Masters (Over 35), Under 15 and Under 19.
The Amateur Event will have prizes in excess off K5,000 in value (AUD$2,000) in addition to locally produced trophies.
